I'm writing a novel where one of the characters is head of an independent film production house and movie director. Lighthouse Productions is a small production house with brilliant writers and story concepts, but their cinematology and dramatisation tends to miss the mark because of lack of funding. Its films are popular among alternative movie lovers around the country, but are relatively nameless in the mainstream crowd. Nancy just released Movie A earlier this week, and is currently planning Movie B. Both movies are deal with contemporary social injustice and what God has to do with it. Can you describe to me the typical pre-production and post-production stages of an independent movie? What should I mention in the novel, and what pitfalls must I avoid? Extra resources are more than welcome! Thanks.
Would also be helpful if you could describe to me what needs to be done before completing a film's proposal to get funding from sponsors and investors. Also, do independent production houses hold press conferences around the release date of the movie to?
