Do you think that story on the Today show about the Lighthouse was weird and mean?

So this guy bought a lighthouse and it cost 65,000. They already had a house but it was his dream to have a lighhouse as a vacation home. SO he took him kids college fund to fix it and buy it. He put his family in debt and now the kids have no money to go to college with. What are your thoughts on this. I thought it was mean. If my dad went into my college fund to buy a Lighthouse i would **** him. What are your thoughts on this story.
