Places to stay, things to do in Portland, ME, Portsmouth, NH & Salem, MA?

I love lighthouses, so I thought the New England area would be a perfect place to see. I am planning a short mini vacation in August. I'll be spending 1 night in Portland, Maine, 1 night in Salem, Massachusetts and 1 night in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. I'm looking for recomendations for places to stay in each city along with things to do and see. Thanks in advance for your help!
