What are some fun and interesting things to do and see on the Outer Banks of North Carolina?

I have been to the Outer Banks many times, but would like to know if I am missing out on anything. I have been to the lighthouses, etc. It has been 4 years since I've been there…anything new? Something other than the typical tourist spots would be nice. I will be there Sept. 16-23. No hurricanes please! Hehehe
